The Latvian singer Marina Rebeka is one of the leading sopranos of our time. In 2009, she made a successful debut at the Salzburg Festival conducted by Riccardo Muti (part of Anaida in Rossini’s Moses and Pharaoh) and has since performed in the best theaters and concert halls in the world – the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall in New York , La Scala in Milan and Covent Garden in London, the Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Zurich Opera and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Marina Rebeca has collaborated with leading conductors including Alberto Zedda, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano, Fabio Luisi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Thomas Hengelbrock, Paolo Carignani, Stéphane Deneuve, Yves Abel and Ottavio Dantone. Her repertoire ranges from baroque music and Italian bel canto to works by Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky. Among the signature roles of the singer are Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata, Norma in Bellini’s opera of the same name, Donna Anna and Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

Born in Riga, Marina Rebeka received her musical education in Latvia and Italy, where she graduated from the Roman Conservatory of Santa Cecilia. She took part in the International Summer Academy in Salzburg and the Rossini Academy in Pesaro. Laureate of a number of international vocal competitions, including the “New Voices” of the Bertelsmann Foundation (Germany). Recitals of the singer were held at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, London’s Wigmore Hall, La Scala Theater in Milan, the Grand Festival Palace in Salzburg and the Rudolfinum Hall in Prague. She has collaborated with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Orchestra, the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Comunale Theater Orchestra in Bologna and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.

The singer’s discography includes two solo albums with arias by Mozart and Rossini, as well as recordings of Rossini’s “Little Solemn Mass” with the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome conducted by Antonio Pappano, the operas “La Traviata” by Verdi and “William Tell” by Rossini, where she Thomas Hampson and Juan Diego Flores became partners respectively. Last season, Marina sang the title role in Massenet’s Thais at the Salzburg Festival (concert performance). Her stage partner was Placido Domingo, with whom she also performed at La Traviata in Vienna, the National Theater of Pecs (Hungary) and the Palace of Arts in Valencia. At the Metropolitan Opera, she sang the part of Matilda in a new production of Rossini’s William Tell, at the Rome Opera – the title role in Donizetti’s Mary Stuart, at the Baden-Baden Festival Palace – the role of Vitelli in Mozart’s Titus’ Mercy.

This season, Marina participated in a concert performance of Verdi’s Luisa Miller with the Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra, sang the title role in Norma at the Metropolitan Opera and the role of Leila in Bizet’s The Pearl Seekers (Chicago Lyric Opera). Among her immediate engagements are her debut at the Paris National Opera as Violetta, Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust (Monte Carlo Opera), Amelia in Verdi’s Simone Boccanegre (Vienna State Opera) and Joan of Arc in Verdi’s opera of the same name (Concerthaus in Dortmund). The singer also plans to make debuts as Leonora in Il trovatore, Tatiana in Eugene Onegin, and Nedda in Pagliacci.
