German singer (mezzo-soprano). Debut in 1927 (Ulm), after a series of seasons in various German theaters she sang at La Scala (1935), Covent Garden (1937). She performed at the Bayreuth Festival in 1936-42 (parts of Frikka in Der Ring des Nibelungen, Brangheny in the opera Tristan und Isolde, etc.). In 1949-61 she sang at the Deutsche Oper. At the Salzburg Festival in 1955, she performed in the world premiere of Eckg’s opera The Irish Legend (part of Oona). One of the singer’s best roles was the role of Adriana in Wagner’s opera Rienzi (excerpts from the opera were recorded by the singer in 1941 at the Preiser company.
