Magdalena Kozhena (mezzo-soprano) studied at the Brno Conservatory and then at the College of Performing Arts in Bratislava. She received several prizes and awards in the Czech Republic and other countries, became a laureate of the VI International Competition. W. A. ​​Mozart in Salzburg (1995). She signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon, which recently released her CD Lettere Amorose (“Love Letters”). She was named Gramophone Artist of the Year in 2004 and received a Gramophone Award in 2009.

The singer’s solo concerts were held in London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna, Hamburg, Lisbon, Prague and New York. She sang the title role in Cinderella at Covent Garden; sang the roles of Carmen (Carmen), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Idamante (Idomeneo), Dorabella (Everyone Does It So) at the Salzburg Festival, Mélisande (Pelléas et Mélisande), Barbara (Katya Kabanova”), Cherubino (“The Marriage of Figaro”), Dorabella and Idamante at the Metropolitan Opera. Chevalier of the French Order of Arts and Letters.

Kozhena is married to conductor Simon Rattle, with whom she has sons Jonas (2005) and Milos (2008).
