Debut 1949 in Lima. From 1954 he sang in Europe. In 1955, he performed with great success on the stage of La Scala (Paolino’s part in Cimarosa’s The Secret Marriage). He sang at Covent Garden (from 1960), from 1964 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Fenton in Falstaff). In 1970 he performed the part of Nemorino here. Repeatedly performed at the Salzburg Festival, in Aix-en-Provence. Among the parts of Ferrando in “That’s what everyone does”, Alfred, Almaviva and others sang in the opera Malipiero. Has the gift of a comic actor. Among the recordings, we note the part of Lindor in Rossini’s Italian Girl in Algiers (conductor Varviso, Decca).
