Lucia Valentini Terrani
Debut 1969 (Brescia, title role in Rossini’s Cinderella). She gained fame as a performer of coloratura parts in Rossini’s operas. Since 1974 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Isabella in The Italian Girl in Algiers). In 1982 she performed in the title role in Rossini’s Tancrede (Pesaro Festival). In 1987 she sang the part of Rosina in Covent Garden. In 1993 she sang the role of Isabella at the Deutsche Oper. In 1994 she sang the part of Jocasta in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex in Monte Carlo. She toured with La Scala in Moscow (1974, Cinderella by Rossini). Other roles include Semiramide in Rossini’s opera of the same name, Amneris, Eboli in the opera Don Carlos. Recordings include Malcolm’s part in The Lady of the Lake by Rossini (dir. M. Pollini, Sony), Eboli (French version, dir. Abbado, Deutsche Grammophon).
