Born February 12, 1925 in the city of Rostov, Yaroslavl province. He graduated from school number 1 named after V. I. Lenin.

In 1940-1941 he graduated in one year from the theoretical and compositional department of the Musical College. Gnesins (teachers V. A. Taranushchenko, V. Ya. Shebalin). In 1950 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Theory and Composition, in 1951 from the Piano Faculty of the Moscow Conservatory (teachers V. Ya. Shebalin and A. N. Aleksandrov – composition, G. G. Neuhaus – piano, L. A. Mazel – analysis , I. V. Sposobin – harmony). In 1953 he completed postgraduate studies at the conservatory with a degree in composition. During his studies, he received a Stalin scholarship. In 1953-1955 he taught at the State Musical and Pedagogical Institute. Gnesins (analysis of musical forms, harmony, composition).

From 1955 until the last year of his life he taught at the Moscow Conservatory. Until 1957, an assistant in the class of analysis with professors L. A. Mazel and S. S. Skrebkov. Since 1956, an assistant to Professor G. G. Neuhaus. Since 1963 he taught an independent class of special piano, since 1967 he was an assistant professor, since 1972 he was a professor.

Later famous pianists such as Sergey Babayan (English) Russian, Vladimir Viardo (Ukrainian) Russian, Andrey Gavrilov, Dmitry Galynin, Pavel Gintov (English) Russian, Nairi Grigoryan (English) Russian studied in his class. ., Andrey Diev, Victor Yeresko, Ilya Itin, Alexander Kobrin, Lim Don Hyuk (eng.) Russian, Lim Don Min (eng.) Russian., Svyatoslav Lips, Vasily Lobanov (eng.) Russian., Alexey Lyubimov, Alexander Melnikov, Alexey Nasedkin, Valery Petash, Boris Petrushansky, Dmitry Onishchenko, Pavel Dombrovsky, Yuri Rozum, Alexey Sultanov, Alexander Toradze (eng.), Konstantin Shcherbakov, Violetta Egorova and many others.

Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1966). Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1978).

He died on August 21, 2005 in Moscow. He was buried at the Khovansky cemetery.
