Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR (1958). After graduating from the Azerbaijan Conservatory in 1948 in the viola class, Abdullayev studied conducting at the Moscow Conservatory under the direction of Leo Ginzburg (1948-1952). Returning to Baku, he worked as a conductor, and then as chief conductor at the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theatre. M. F. Akhundova (1952-1960). In 1960, Abdullaev headed the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, and in 1962 he became the chief conductor of the Stanislavsky and Vl. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. Abdullayev’s operatic repertoire, along with classical works, also includes works by Soviet composers (he was the first to stage, in particular, A. Nikolaev’s opera “At the Cost of Life”). The conductor toured in the cities of Transcaucasia, Ukraine, and the GDR.
