Ian Bostridge
Ian Bostridge has performed in Salzburg, Edinburgh, Munich, Vienna, Aldborough and Schwarzenberg at festivals. His concerts were held in such halls as Carnegie Hall and La Scala, the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the London Barbican Hall, the Luxembourg Philharmonic and the Wigmore Hall.
His recordings have received all the most significant recording awards, including 15 Grammy nominations.
The singer has performed with such orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Chicago, Boston and London Symphonies, the London Philharmonic, the Air Force Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic; conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Andrew Davis, Seiji Ozawa, Antonio Pappano, Riccardo Muti, Mstislav Rostropovich, Daniel Barenboim and Docald Runnicle.
The singer’s repertoire also includes opera parts, including Liander (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Tamino (The Magic Flute), Peter Quint (The Turn of the Screw), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Caliban (The Tempest ”), Nero (“The Coronation of Poppeas”), Tom Raykuel (“The Rake’s Adventures”), Aschenbach (“Death in Venice”).
During 2013, when the whole world celebrated the anniversary of Benjamin Britten, Ian Bostridge participated in the performances of the War Requiem – London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Yurovsky; “Illuminations” – Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Andris Nelsons; “Rivers of Carlew” directed by the Barbican Hall.
Plans for the near future include a return to the BBC, performances at the Aldborough and Schwarzenberg festivals, recitals in the US and collaborations with conductors such as Daniel Harding, Andrew Manze and Leonard Slatkin.
Ian Bostridge studied at Corpus Christi in Oxford, since 2001 the musician is an honorary member of this college. In 2003 he received a doctorate in music from the University of St. Andrews, and in 2010 an honorary fellow of St. John’s College, Oxford. This year the singer is Humanitas Professor at Oxford University.
