Humbuckers in action

Humbuckers are a type of guitar pickup used to convert the vibrations of a guitar’s strings into an electrical signal. In addition to the single coil single-coil pickups, this is the most popular type of pickup. Humbuckers are basically two connected singles, touching their longer sides, and very often manufacturers in their designs allow them to be separated, which increases the tonal palette of a given guitar. We will take a look at a few models of guitars, the sound of which is precisely due to the humbuckers.

The Epiphone DC Pro MF is a Double Cut guitar, i.e. with two cutouts, a veneered AAA maple top, and all this drives two ProBucker humbuckers with the possibility of disconnecting coils and Grover keys. The whole is finished in a high gloss Mojave Fade color, but of course the manufacturer also gives us a choice of Black Cherry, Faded Cherry Sunburst, Midnight Ebony and Wild Ivy finishes. The body, fingerboard and headstock feature a creamy, single-layer binding. A deeply glued neck with a comfortable Custom “C” profile is made of mahogany and equipped with a Pau Ferro wood fingerboard with a radius of 12 ″ with 24 medium jumbo frets. The positions are indicated by large, pearl rectangular markers with colored balloon triangles inscribed in them. It is crowned with a black headstock with a 43mm Graph Tech Nubone saddle, adorned with the iconic ‘Vine’ pearl inlay in the 40s style and the Epiphone logo. On both sides there are 3 + 3 nickel-plated Grover wrenches with a ratio of 18: 1. The DC PRO is equipped with a fixed, adjustable LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge with a nickel-plated tailpiece. Our next proposition based on Humbuckers is the Jackson Pro Series HT-7. There is another guitar model made in collaboration with the MegaDeath musician. This great instrument with a neck-thru-body construction has a maple neck with built-in graphite reinforcements, the wings are mahogany, and the fingerboard is made of rosewood. Two DiMarzio CB-7 pickups, a three-position switch, two push-pull potentiometers – tone and volume, and a killswitch are responsible for the sound. The third of the proposed guitars is the Epiphone Flying V 1958 AN. This model refers to the old V-ka models, but in a modern version. Made mostly of corina wood, with a rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets. The guitar has a scale of 24.75 ″. As for the pickups, in this case Epiphone used the popular AlNiCo Classic model in both positions, which effectively provide an aggressive and warm sound at the same time. Thanks to this, the instrument will prove itself in a very wide spectrum of musical climates – from gentle blues to sharp, metal playing. An additional anti-slip pad allows for a better positioning of the guitar while playing in a sitting position. The whole is finished to a high gloss in the traditional color of corina wood. And at the end of our Humbucker review, I invite you to take an interest in the Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute Humbucker Vintage guitar. It’s a real icing on the cake. The mahogany body is covered with nitrocellulose varnish, just like the glued maple neck. The whole is finished with a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets. Two Gibson humbuckers, 490R and 490T, are responsible for the sound. The strings are mounted on a Wraparound bridge and on classic Gibson clefs. How does it sound? See for yourself. Summation

When it comes to guitars with two humbuckers on board, the presented models are one of the most interesting propositions among mass production from such a mid-range price range, i.e. from 2500 to 4500 PLN. Both the quality of the instruments and the sound should satisfy even the most demanding guitarists.
