Gaziz Niyazovich Dugashev (Gaziz Dugashev) |

Soviet conductor, People’s Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1957). In the pre-war years, Dugashev studied at the Alma-Ata Musical College in the violin class. From the first days of the Great Patriotic War, the young musician has been in the ranks of the Soviet Army, taking part in the battles near Moscow. After being wounded, he returned to Alma-Ata, worked as an assistant conductor (1942-1945), and then as a conductor (1945-1948) at the Opera House. Realizing the need to complete his professional education, Dugashev went to Moscow and improved for about two years at the conservatory under the guidance of N. Anosov. After that, he was appointed chief conductor of the Abai Opera and Ballet Theater in the capital of Kazakhstan (1950). The following year, he became the conductor of the Bolshoi Theater, remaining in this position until 1954. Dugashev takes an active part in the preparation of the Decade of Kazakh literature and art in Moscow (1958). The further performing activity of the artist unfolds at the Kiev Theater of Opera and Ballet named after T. G. Shevchenko (1959-1962), the Moscow Touring Opera of the All-Russian State Conservatory (1962-1963), in 1963-1966 he served as artistic director of the symphony orchestra of cinematography. In 1966-1968, Dugashev headed the Opera and Ballet Theater in Minsk. Under the direction of Dugashev, dozens of opera and ballet performances were held, including works by many Kazakh composers – M. Tulebaev, E. Brusilovsky, K. Kuzhamyarov, A. Zhubanov, L. Hamidi and others. He often performed in symphony concerts with various orchestras. Dugashev taught an opera class at the Minsk Conservatory.
