Debut 1894 (Bolshoi Theatre, part of Vanya). In 1894-1905 she sang at the Bolshoi Theatre. She gained fame after performing the part of Anne Boleyn in Saint-Saens’ opera Henry VIII (1897). Soloist of the Mariinsky Theater in 1905-17. Participated in the first production on the imperial stage of Mussorgsky’s opera Khovanshchina (1911, Marfa’s part) together with Chaliapin.

Zbrueva toured a lot abroad, participated in the first performances of the Russian Seasons (1907-08). Among the roles are also Clytemnestra in Taneyev’s Oresteia, Sister-in-law in Rimsky-Korsakov’s May Night, Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Lel, Ratmir, Konchakovna in Prince Igor and a number of others.
