She made her debut in 1898 at the Berlin Court Opera (part of Santuzza in Rural Honour), where she sang until 1908. In 1901-02 she sang at the Bayreuth Festival (Senta in Wagner’s Flying Dutchman). In 1904 she performed the part of Donna Anna at Covent Garden. She sang in Berlin the part of Salome (1906). In 1908-1916 at the Metropolitan Opera (debut as Donna Anna, one of the best of her career). Together with Caruso, she participated in the world premiere of Puccini’s opera The Girl from the West (1910, the role of Minnie, which the composer wrote especially for the singer). After 1921 she returned to the Czech Republic.
Among the parties are also Aida, Tosca, Mimi, Mazhenka in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, Valli in Catalani’s opera of the same name, Lisa, Pamina and others. She acted in films. Author of a number of literary works.
