German singer (mezzo-soprano). Debut 1972 at the Bayreuth Festival (in Wagner’s opera Forbidden Love). Since 1973 she sang at the Stuttgart Opera. Since 1983 in Covent Garden (debut as Sextus in Mozart’s “Mercy of Titus”). Zoffel is a participant in the world premieres of Reimann’s The Trojan Women (3), Penderecki’s King Ubu (1986, both Munich). She performed the part of Isabella in The Italian Girl in Algiers (1991, Schwetzingen Festival). At the 1987 Salzburg Festival she sang the role of Clytemnestra in Elektra. Recordings include the part of Isabella (video, dir. R. Weikert, RCA), parts in a number of operas by German composers (The Poacher by Lortzing and others).
