Chord modifications

You already know the main types of chords. In addition, you can change the structure of the chord according to certain rules, which adds “musical colors” to the work. The changes relate to the steps that make up the chord. Steps can be skipped, added, altered (remember the accidentals: sharp flat?).

General rule: nothing can be done with the steps that determine whether a chord belongs to a particular class (major / minor). These are the III steps (thirds) and VII (septims). For each case, we will separately consider which steps can be changed, as well as how to do it.

This section deals with particularly important information for the musician, it is worth reading.
