Debut 1969 (Hannover, part of Ottokar in “Free Shooter”). Then he sang in Düsseldorf, Hamburg (1973). From 1972 he performed at the Salzburg Festival, in the same year he made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival. He made his debut at Covent Garden in 1975 (Figaro), at the Metropolitan Opera in 1977 (Tungsten in Tannhäuser).
