Artur Bodanzky |

Pupil of K. Gredener, A. Zemlinsky. He began as a conductor in an operetta (1900). Since 1903 Mahler’s assistant at the Vienna Opera. He worked in Berlin, Prague, Mannheim. In 1914 he performed Parsifal at Covent Garden (English premiere). Famous performer of Wagner operas. Performed in Russia. In 1915-39, conductor of the Metropolitan Opera (debut in the opera “The Death of the Gods”).

Engaged in scientific work. Under the editorship of Bodanzki, the operas Don Giovanni, Free Gunner and Oberon by Weber, Fidelio and others were published. Among the recordings of “The Rosenkavalier” by R. Strauss (soloists Leman, Stevens, Farrell, Liszt; 1939, Naxos (live)).
