It was very popular in the middle of the 19th century. Soloist of the Bolshoi Theater in 1827-53. 1st performer of the part of Toropka in the opera Askold’s Grave by Verstovsky (1835). Participated in 1st Russian productions of Bellini’s The Pirate (1837), The Favorite (1841) and others. His contemporaries called him the Moscow Nightingale.
